After Addie’s death, Anse orders his children to make preparations – Cash to finish the coffin and Dewey Dell to prepare the fish that the six-year-old Vardaman caught earlier that day. ![]() Anse’s fear comes true, and Addie dies just after the two leave. Despite initial reservations from Anse, who believes Addie is going to die any minute, Darl and Jewel leave home to run an errand for their neighbor Vernon Tull. This gesture upsets Jewel, who thinks the rest of his family is vindictively rushing Addie to her death. The oldest son, a level-headed carpenter named Cash Bundren, spends the days preceding Addie’s death outside her window, dutifully constructing a coffin. The rest of the family waits around for Addie’s impending death and vaguely discuss their eventual plans to cart their mother’s corpse forty or so miles to the town of Jefferson, where she has requested to be buried alongside her family. The novel begins with Addie Bundren, wife to Anse Bundren and mother of their children, on her deathbed. ![]() 7/8/2023 0 Comments Oops the book![]() ![]() You will broaden your understanding of OOP further as you delve into some of the advanced features of the language, such as using events, delegates, and generics. ![]() You will then go on to learn how to use classes, interfacesm and properties to write pure OOP code in your applications. The Red Allies, comprised of Americas enemies take over the once great city after winning the third and possibly final world war. Despite its actual size, it is the most densely populated city in the United States and after World War three, it becomes the perfect place for the Red Allies to establish their Prisoner of War camp. The island of Manhattan, New York City or just the city, as New Yorkers call it, has a length of 13.4 miles and a width of 2.3 miles at its widest point. The city ate us alive” These eleven words written across the beautifully grim cover of Lee Kelly’ stand alone dystopian young adult novel “City of Savages” sets the tone for one of, in my opinion, 2015s best young adult one offs. ![]() 7/6/2023 0 Comments Otherland tad![]() It made me think about the very nature of life and death. I expected the story to be entertaining like Memory Sorrow and Thorn, and it was-and, like the former series, it had a fabulous ending, but it was also very thought provoking. The second and third books dragged a bit-perhaps they could have been combined into one book.īut the story itself I found quite intriguing, the ending especially. And there were some scenes (for example, the entire part in Dodge City) that I felt were unnecessary and only made the story drag. For example, at one point he said "The dust lay as thick as icing sugar." That doesn't even make sense-who said icing sugar is thick? It's just light and powdery. I felt that some sentences and phrases just sounded awkward. It could have benefitted from a couple more rereads on his part, but to his credit each book is extremely long and I'm sure he had deadlines. ![]() Namely, the skeleton of the plot is a very classic fantasy motif, the quest on which a group of bedraggled people who have been thrown together must embark to save the world.įor starters I should say that I really liked the series, although I wouldn't say it was perfect-it seemed to me that Williams was in a bit of rush to finish it. I probably should have put it on the SF board but I'm more comfortable here, and besides I believe the series contains many fantasy elements as well. I just finished Tad Williams' Otherland series tonight and I was wondering if anyone wanted to discuss it with me. ![]() 7/6/2023 0 Comments Batter Off Dead by Maddie Day![]() ![]() ![]() Books in the Country Store Mystery Series in Order This cozy series is perfect for anyone who loves small town settings, foodie mysteries, and loves to explore country roads. ![]() This is not how she wanted to start her business!
